DAY ONE BOX

YOUR COMPUTER’S TOXIC PARTS

Just one computer can contain hundreds of chemicals and heavy metals:

Metal: Aluminum and copper in the hard drives and monitors; steel and iron in computer cases. Circuit boards contain precious metals such as gold, silver and palladium.

Glass: Found in monitors. Must be smelted if it contains lead.

Plastic: Found throughout computers: in monitors, cases, and keyboards.

Toxics: Monitors contain on average four pounds of lead, plus significant amounts of cadmium, mercury and barium. Circuit boards hold heavy metals, such as lead, antimony, silver, chromium and copper. Plastic parts are often coated with brominated flame retardants.
