Meet the I-News Team

Laura Frank

Laura Frank

Laura Frank is the executive director of I-News, the Rocky Mountain Investigative News Network. I-News delivers multimedia reports to news outlets across the Rocky Mountain region and is a founding member of the national nonprofit Investigative News Network. Frank, a Denver native, has nearly two decades experience at daily newspapers, radio and public television. She was an investigative reporter at the Rocky Mountain News until it closed in 2009. Her stories have won top awards in both print and broadcast, and helped release innocent people from prison, protect abused children, and win aid for sick nuclear weapons workers.

Joe Mahoney

Joe Mahoney

Joe Mahoney is the director of multimedia for I-News. Mahoney was the Assistant Director of Multimedia and a staff photographer for the Rocky Mountain News from 1999 until the paper closed in 2009. Mahoney won an Emmy in 2010 in the Topical Documentary category for his work as associate producer on “Final Edition.” He was part of photo teams that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography in 2000 and 2003. During his time with the News, Mahoney covered a wide range of stories from presidential campaigns, national political conventions, major league sports, natural disasters and many local issues. Mahoney spent nine years with The Associated Press before joining the News.

Kristin Jones

Kristin Jones

Kristin Jones is a reporter for I-News. She was formerly a staff writer for The Center for Public Integrity, where she co-wrote a series investigating sexual assault on college campuses. The series received the Sigma Chi Delta Award for public service in independent online journalism for 2009. Her writing on government, finance and international affairs has appeared in ProPublica, The Wall Street Journal Asia edition, and The Blotter on ABCNews.com. She is also U.S. correspondent for the South China Morning Post, a Hong Kong newspaper. Jones has a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University.

Lauren Seaton

Lauren Seaton

Lauren Seaton is a second-year master’s degree candidate in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to graduate school, she spent five years with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC, working as a Food and Beverage Manager in Avon, Colo. A New Hampshire native, she graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges with a Bachelor of Arts degree in writing and studio art. For the past seven years she has called Colorado home.

Jordan Wirfs-Brock

Jordan Wirfs-Brock

Jordan Wirfs-Brock is a master’s degree candidate in environmental journalism at the University of Colorado whose interests include data visualization and map-making. She’s written stories about garbage, dairy farming, air pollution, and spider hunters. Jordan has been a science teacher in South Korea and was a content editor for an environmental social media website. She has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from MIT.

Andrea Sutherland

Andrea Sutherland

Andrea Sutherland is a master’s degree candidate in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado. Sutherland has worked for Climbing magazine, the Climbing Wall Association and the University of Colorado in various media roles. When not working, Sutherland enjoys all that Boulder has to offer including rock climbing and snow boarding. Sutherland graduated from DePauw University in 2007.
